The maps above show the location of Scalpay in relation to the Isle of Skye and the rest of Scotland.

By Plane:

The nearest airport is in Inverness. British Airways and EasyJet have daily flights and are very cheap if you book well in advance. Please see the British Airways and/or Easyjet websites for more information.

For the keen flyers there is a small air strip opposite Scalpay in Broadford. Although Easyjet have announced plans to run a service, there are currently no scheduled flights to this airport.

By Road:

The main A class roads are shown on the maps above, with the Kyle of Lochalsh being the crossing point to the Isle of Skye.

From Glasgow:

Follow the signs to Loch Lomond and Crianlarich on the A82 road. Keep on this road to Fort William then either, take the A830 to Mallaig, where you must have a reservation on the ferry, or continue on the A82 to Spean Bridge and then to Invergarry. At Invergarry turn left onto the A87 and follow the signs to Kyle of Lochalsh and the Skye Bridge. From the Skye Bridge, turn right at the round-about, sign-posted to Portree and follow the A87 to Broadford. (Travelling time 4-5 hours.)

From Inverness:

Take the A82 via Loch Ness signed to Invermoriston and Kyle of Lochalsh. At Invermoriston turn left to Kyle of Lochalsh on the A887. This becomes the A87 and goes straight to Kyle of Lochalsh and the Skye Bridge. From the Skye Bridge, turn right at the round-about, sign-posted to Portree and follow the A87 to Broadford. (Travelling time, maximum, 2 hours.)

From Edinburgh:

Follow signs to the Forth Road Bridge on the A90 and Perth on the M90. Then take the A9 towards Inverness, as far as Dalwhinnie. Turn left at Dalwhinnie onto the A889 to Spean Bridge. At Spean Bridge turn right onto the A82 sign-posted to Kyle of Lochalsh and Invergarry. Turn left at Invergarry onto the A87 to Kyle of Lochalsh and the Skye Bridge. From the Skye Bridge, turn right at the round-about, sign-posted to Portree and follow the A87 to Broadford. (Travelling time, 4-5 hours.)

From the Armadale Ferry:

If you come accross to the Isle of Skye on the Armadale Ferry (see below) then take the A851 to Broadford.

By Rail:

You can get to Kyle of Lochalsh by rail. Scotrail offer a sleeper service between London Euston and Inverness, amongst other services to the region. Please see the National Rail website or call 08457 48 49 50 for more detailed train information. Alternately, please visit GNER and/or Scotrail websites for more information.

The line between Inverness and Kyle appeared on Michael Palin's 'Greatest Railway Journeys' and is claimed to be Britain's most scenic railway.

If you travel to Fort William, with the aim of catching the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale, then you may wish to consider the scenic "Jacobite" Steam train, including the famous 21 arch Glenfinnan viaduct as featured in Harry Potter. Described as one of the "Great Rail Journeys of the World", this is well worth it. By Bus:

There are two bus services that you may wish to consider when visiting the Isle of Skye. The first is Scottish Citylink who are contactable on 08705 50 50 50 or via their website www.citylink.co.uk. The second is Rapsons, the local bus service. They can be contacted for more information on 01478 612 622 or via their website www.rapsons.co.uk.

By Ferry:

There is a ferry to the Isle of Skye that leaves from Mallaig and arrives on the Isle at Armadale. For the current timetable, fare information and for bookings please visit the CalMac website.
