Isle Trail: Home arrow Stalking

Stalking on Scalpay

There is a mature population of Red Deer on the island which is managed under our long term plan for the sustainability and health of the herd and the environment.

As part of this initiative, stalking is available to let in September and October for stags and November to February for hinds. As with most highland deer on open hill ground those on Scalpay are considered small, though a 200lb stag seems quite big enough when being dragged!

Ample booking time is required and permits for imported weapons and proof of insurance are essential.

Our Stalkers

We have an experienced part time stalker who has accompanied guests on the island for over 20 years. A second stalker may be arranged if necessary.

Stalking is carried out on foot, although travelling out to the stalk and recovery of the beast may be by boat depending on wind & weather conditions.
